Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Army during the Philippine Insurrection as a Private in Company A, 36th United States Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in action at Porac, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on September 3, 1899, with his citation reading "Distinguished gallantry in action in driving off a superior force and with the assistance of 1 comrade brought from the field of action the bodies of 2 comrades, 1 killed and the other severely wounded, this while on a scout." Killed in action on December 1, 1900 at Pilar in the Abra Province of the Philippines, his Medal was posthumously awarded to him on February 7, 1902. His remains were re-buried in the San Francisco National Cemetery from the Philippines on June 17, 1902. The comrade that has assisted him during his act of bravery, Corporal James R.L. Gillenwater, was also awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism in the action.
