A mention in the Marin Journal on July 17, 1890; We are pleased to learn that P.J. Shafter has employed Ben Alcantara as his gamekeeper. No better selection could be made, and our advice to trespassers in general is to be careful, as Ben will do his duty.
I believe Benjamin worked for the exclusive Bear Valley Country Club. Organized in 1890, it was located in the heart of Bear Valley, three miles from Olema. Size was 120 acres with almost 60,000 acres leased for hunting and fishing. Today, it is part of the Point Reyes National Seashore area. The lodge used to be in Divide Meadow.
