Rev. Alvin W. Gill, 76 of Patterson, passed away Wednesday evening (July 13, 2011) at Hospice Satilla – Hospice House following an extended illness.

A native of Patterson, Rev. Gill had lived all of his life in Pierce County. He was called into the ministry in his late 20's and was ordained at Offerman Baptist Church in the early 1960's. Rev. Gill had pastored Pine Grove Baptist Church in Blackshear, Fellowship Baptist Church in Jesup, Little Creek Baptist Church in Gardi, Pine Haven Baptist Church in Brunswick and Old Bethel Baptist Church in Jesup. He was a member of Offerman Baptist Church where he also was a deacon. After retiring from full-time ministry, Rev. Gill became very active at Offerman Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, worked with the hospital ministry and filled the pulpit in area churches as needed. In addition to his ministry, Rev. Gill had worked as a carpenter, a cabinet maker and a farmer. He was an avid fisherman.

He was a son of the late Riley Allen and Cora Mae Crosby Gill; and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Gill; a son, Donnie Gill; three sisters, Isabell Tyre, Thedious Brown and Louise Elizabeth Gill; three brothers, Midge Gill, Clyde Gill and Pete Gill.

Survivors include his wife, Corrine Lynn Gill of Patterson; two daughters, Carolyn G. Davis (husband Jerry) of Patterson and Laura Dubberly (husband Brian) of Douglas; a son, Timothy Gill of Patterson; a sister, Diane Walker (husband Mitchell) of Patterson; two brothers, Riley Gill (wife Evelyn) of Alma and Floyd Gill (wife Mary) of Patterson; two sisters-in-law, Josie Gill of Waycross and Betty Jo Tyre Gill of Jesup; thirteen grandchildren, Davey Davis, Michael Davis, John Davis, Jeffery Davis, Shannon Moody, Gabe Gill, Heather Gill, Freddie Walker, Kristina Saylor, Deek Dubberly, James Gill, Joshua Gill and Faith Gill; twenty-three great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501 or Southeast Cancer Unit, 401 Pendleton Street, Waycross, GA 31501.

Visitation:
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 o'clock Friday evening (July 15, 2011) at the funeral home.

Service:
The funeral for Rev. Gill will be held 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning (July 16, 2011) at Offerman Baptist Church.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family requests that members of the Offerman Baptist Church Men's Sunday school class and the church deacons serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to meet at the church by 10:30.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery.
