U.S. Congressman. He studied medicine, was commissioned a license as a medical doctor and proceeded to practice medicine in Livermore, Maine, in 1814. in 1815 he moved to Canton where he lived and practiced medicine for the rest of his life. Entering politics, he was member of the Maine House of Representatives, (1821-22, served in the Maine State Senate, 1822, 25- 26) and was Canton, Maine, justice of the peace, (1826-55). In 1833, he was as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James W. Ripley, reelected to the Twenty-second Congress, serving until 1833. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of medicine and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death.
