CHESAPEAKE, Va; Alan Ackerman, 54, formerly of Dover, NH, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Chesapeake.

He was the beloved son of George and the late Jeanette "Jay" Ackerman. He graduated from Dover High School. He served six years in the U.S. Army and had been self-employed for many years. Alan had a deep love for the ocean and a good book, but his family and friends were his heart.

He leaves behind his wife and soul mate, Jane Ackerman, and her daughters, Kelly and Courtney; his best friend and son, Ian Ackerman; his daughter-in-law, Brandy; and his precious grandsons, Devin and Braydon.

Other survivors include his father, George, of Dover and his brother, Randy, and his wife, Brenda, of Maine, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Burial will take place Tuesday, March 14, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. A memorial Mass in his honor will be held at his favorite church in Maine in May. Published in Fosters from March 18 to March 19, 2009
