Rhoda Newmark Deblinger passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 23, 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Morris "Marty" Deblinger; two sons, Paul and Robert; a daughter, Jane Deblinger McMullen; three grandchildren, Derek, Laurel and David; two sisters, Davia Cohn and Charlotte Levitan, both of New Jersey.

Rhoda was born in Perth Amboy, N.J., on July 19, 1924, the oldest child of Jack and Mary Newmark. Rhoda and Marty met in Washington, D.C., soon after she was honorably discharged from the Waves. After World War II, they were married for 56 years, living mostly in Washington D.C. and Silver Spring, Md., and finally in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Even though she was unable to finish college, she was very, very proud that her three children not only graduated but obtained a total of eight degrees. Her love and joy of the three grandchildren and theirs in return was wonderful to behold.

The family extends its gratitude for the prayers and kindness of all her dear friends.

Internment will take place at the Judea Reform Cemetery at 3 p.m., June 24, 2004, by Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the synagogue, Cornucopia of Chapel Hill or Duke Hospice - Walker's Funeral Home.
