BIG STONE GAP -- Robert G. "Bob" Whitt Sr., 89, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in Brian Center in Weber City.

He was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap and Appalachia, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and retired from Pet Dairy.

He was a charter member of Big Stone Gap Lions Club and of the VFW John Fox Jr. Post 5715. He was a member of Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge 208 and served on the Big Stone Gap Town Council for 12 years.

He was vice mayor for two years and the widower of Evelyn L. Whitt.

Surviving are three sons, Robert G. Whitt Jr. of Big Stone Gap, William John Whitt of Weber City and James R. Whitt of Kingsport; a brother, Arthur "Bus" Whitt of Big Stone Gap; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church by Gilliam Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronnie Mutter will officiate. Masonic funeral rites will be Friday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home by Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge 208.

Burial will be Saturday in American Legion Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bud Gilliam, Roy Laster, Paul Ramey, William J. Whitt Jr., Christopher W. Whitt, Buster Whitt, C.J. Whitt and Robert G. Whitt III.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in Gilliam funeral Home West Wing.
