Bernard L. "Tink" Beard, Sr., 84, Cornwall, passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was the husband of Dolores "Dolly" Wise Beard, to whom he was married for 58 ½ years.
He was born on June 17, 1926, in Cornwall, a son of the late Charles and Helen Engle Beard.
He was a proud WWII Navy Veteran, serving on Destroyer Escort 222. He was a retired Bethlehem Steel miner with 31 years service and a retired Cornwall Boro Water Authority employee with 20 years service.
He was a member of Cornwall United Methodist Church. Tink enjoyed spending time with family and attended all the grandchildren's many activities. He was also a lover of music and played the organ. He enjoyed gardening, sports and his faithful dog Maddie.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Brenda L., wife of Albert Mettley, Cornwall; sons, Bernard L. Jr., husband of Wendy Beard, Mt. Greta; Brian L., husband of Gwen Beard, Lebanon; six grandchildren; brother, Harold, husband of Helen Beard, Lebanon; sisters, Dolores, wife of Randall Miller, Sr., Cornwall; Joyce, wife of Frederick Shoemaker, Lebanon; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Russell, Charles and William Beard.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Tink's funeral service Monday, June 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., from the Cornwall United Methodist Church, Alden St, Cornwall, with Rev. James Heath and Rev. Glen Esler, officiating. A viewing will be held Monday, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at the church. Interment will be made in the Cornwall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances may be made in Tink's memory to the 4 Diamond Fund, Hershey Medical Center, 1000 University Dr., Hershey, PA 17033.
