US Congressman. Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he moved with his parents to Richmond County, Georgia, in 1784, attended Richmond Academy, graduated from Franklin College, in 1804, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1806 and commenced to practice law in Carnesville, Georgia. He was a member of the , Georgia State House of Representatives (1810-12), clerk of the State House of Representatives (1813-15), served in the Georgia State Senate (1826-27) and judge of the Georgia Superior Court, (1819-25, 1828-31). In 1832, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Wilson Lumpkin and reelected to the Twenty-third Congress, serving until 1835. After his term, he resumed the practice of law in Athens, Georgia, until his death at age 54.
