Services were in charge of Rev. Loyal M. Thompson, of Monmouth, who was assisted by Rev. G. M. Dunlevy. A guard of honor was provided by American Legion members who performed military honors at the Aledo cemetery where interment was made.
Mr. Felton was born Dec. 5, 1842, in Millersburg township. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Felton. He spent most of his youth in that section of the county and enlisted for service in the Union Army Aug. 15, 1862 and served until June 6, 1865 in the Civil war. Mr. Felton saw much active service in the war and took part in several major battles in Tennessee and Georgia. He was one of the men who marched with "Sherman to the Sea."
After his honorable discharge in Chicago in 1865 he returned to Millersburg and was married Sept. 4, 1866 to Miss Charlotte Howe, who died several years ago.
Mr. Felton was a farmer and had resided in Mercer county during his life with the exception of a few years spent in Vermont during his youth.
He was an active member of the Grand Army of the Republic post in Aledo and of the Mercer County Soldiers' and Sailors' Association. He was commander of the G. A. R. post at the time of his death and has held a number of other offices. Mr. Felton was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Florence Mumey, of Aledo; Mrs. Clara Graham, of New Boston, and one son, Fred Felton, of Aledo.
