The tipster led police to a house at 538 Lombard Street in Philadelphia. A police bloodhound smelled the presence of a corpse behind a newly constructed wall. Investigators found the body of Kimberly Szumski wrapped in canvas and plastic after they ripped their way through cinderblock, cement, and steel rods. Thomas Szumski had strangled his wife to death in their New Jersey home, transported her body to the construction site, and entombed her inside a hollow wall. The police did not have to take Thomas Szumski into custody, because he had died of a heroin overdose on July 4, 2001, two months after Kimberly's disappearance and about a month before her remains were discovered.
