Maria Strübing was the oldest of the five children born to August and Wilhelmina Abel Strübing. She spent her early years in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin and moved with her family in the mid 1860s to Defiance County, Ohio. It was here she met and married Henry Boester a local shoemaker. Mary had nine children over a span of sixteen years. She buried her husband and three sons. She lived to age 86 dying in her family home in Hicksville, Ohio. She is buried with her husband and many of her sons and daughters.
