Elmer O. Bennett, native of this community and a farmer of respected ability throughout his entire adult life, died at Graham hospital in Canton at 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 1967.
Mr. Bennett was 74 years and 10 days of age.
Born in Fountain Green Township southeast of LaHarpe on January 21, 1893, he was a son of Raymond and Lillian (Mesecher) Bennett. He was reared and educated in the neighborhood of his birth and was united in marriage with Leta Albaugh at Carthage on June 28, 1916.
Farming and trucking had been Mr. Bennett's vocational interests throughout his adult years, and in the practice of which he had been associated with and employed by many in this community.
Left to mourn the shock and sadness of his death are his wife, three sons, Lisle and Harold Bennett of LaHarpe and Dean Bennett of Dallas City; three daughters, Mrs. Gerrard (Mary Eileen) Rouse of Good Hope, Mrs. Evan (Lorain)Griffith of Canton and Mrs. Delbert (Patsy) Carmean, of Burlington, Iowa.
Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Fenno of Harlan, Iowa, Mrs. Emmett Brunson of Burnside, Ira Bennett in Washington state, Mrs. Cora Harding of Blandinsville, George Bennett of Rock Island, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lowell Bennett, in 1943 and by two brothers and one sister.
