Helen “Bootsie” Dowling Baughman, 88 of Portsmouth, died Saturday,
April 21, 1990, at her residence.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1901 in West Point, Miss., to the late
Charleigh and Betty Mitchell Dowling.
She had been a member of Second Presbyterian Church since 1911, and
taught Sunday School in the Junior Department for 42 years. She was a
member of the Women’s Association at the church, a member of Delta
Kappa Gamma Sorority, and served on the YMCA Board and the board for
the Home for Aged Women.
Preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. “Doc” Baughman on April
11, 1961, she is survived by a son, Dr. Howard E. Baughman Jr. of
Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. John T. (Betsy) Schultz of Portsmouth;
eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Larry
Broadright officiating, and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Daehler Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family’s favorite charities are the church memorial fund and
Shawnee Aquatic Club.
