Mary Josie Sims Creel Burks, 85, of Joppa died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Golden Living Arab.
Mrs. Burks was born July 4, 1925, in Cullman County to Howard Edward and Mary Vonie Jones Sims. She was married to Roland Robert Creel and Earlie Hugh Burks, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and member of New Home Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Wayne and Wilene Creel of Decatur and Howard Lynn Creel of Arab; daughters and son-in-law: Margaret McLeod of Arab and Joan and Ricky Harper of Joppa; daughter-in-law: Brenda Creel of Joppa; sister: Edna Deppen of Boca Raton, Fla.; grandchildren: Belinda Burney, Brandon Creel, Crandon Creel, Mark Creel, Shannon Creel, Shasta Creel, Carla Scott, Regina Hallmark, Sandy Ripley, Terri Hadden and Ben Bailey; and a host of great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by a son: Jerrel Roland Creel; grandson: Brian Russell Creel; and great-grandson: Jayden Alexander Hallmark.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Union Grove Presbyterian Church with Milford Hayes and Hughlan Murphree officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
Pallbearers were Glen Arrington, Ernie Preston, Leldon Creel, Ben Bailey, Mark Creel, Crandon Creel, Brandon Creel, Shannon Creel, J.T. Scott and Glen Burney.
