Excerpts from 'The History of Adair Co', page 1126 (Kirksville,MO library) published 1911:
"Dr. F.M. Barnes was born in Adair County, Missouri, Nov 2, 1857, being a son of Henry M. and Nancy M. Barnes. He was married Jan 10, 1889 to Olive M. Gabbert, daughter of Sylvester and America S. Gabbert. They have three children: Glen F., born 19, 1890; Monte E., Nov 13, 1891; Beulah May Oct 10, 1894. Dr. Barnes was reared on his father's farm near Kirksville, Missouri, remaining at home until about 17 years of age. He attended the public schools during the winter months and helped his father on the farm during the summer. After taking a course in the State Normal School at Kirksville, he went to St Louis and attended the Old American Medical College, from which
institution he graduated with high honors in March 1885.
