Guri was the youngest child and only daughter of Tom and Anette Iverson who were sheep ranchers living 30 miles north of Winnett at Dovetail, Montana. She was named for her dad's mother, Guri Persdatter of the Nåsen farm at Uppheim in Hordaland, Norway (not far from the city of Voss). Her brothers were Andrew and Isaac Iverson, both ranchers who grew up and stayed in the Petroleum County, Montana area. She married Clifford Cook on July 7, 1937 at Billings. They first lived back at her parents' ranch and then moved to their own place at Dovetail in 1942. About 1960, Clifford bought a service station and bulk plant in Winnett and the family moved to town at that time. "Bus" and Guri were parents to six children: Ileen, Tom, Cliff, Anita, Bill, and Pat.
