Second son of Governor John Alsop King and Mary Ray. Married, in New York City, Feb 21, 1839, Mary Colden Rhinelander, only dau. of Philip and Mary Colden (Hoffman) Rhinelander. She was born at Elm Lake, Hamilton Co., NY, Apr 7, 1818 and died in Washington, D.C., Jan 12, 1894.
Republican Presidential elector in 1872 and a State Senator from 1871-1875. Elected president of the New York Historical Society in 1881. He served in that position until his death.
