The newlyweds started their life together in Midlothian, Illinois, and then moved to Des Moines so James B. could complete law school. She received her P.H.T. "put hubby through certificate" from Drake University in 1952. They moved to Milford, Iowa, and lived in northwest Iowa area for five years before settling in Davenport in 1956.

When James B. passed away in 1973, Darlyne resumed a defense department career in the purchasing department at the Rock Island Arsenal while raising the children and putting them through college. She retired in 1990 in the family home in Davenport, before moving to Macomb in 1998.

She is at peace now, may God rest her soul and comfort ours as well.
