Roswell R. (some records list David Roswell) Rothrock was the second of six known children Isaac Rothrock (1798-1872) and his second wife, Susannah Swenk Rothrock (1814-1852), who married c1830 in presumably Pennsylvania. Isaac had no known children by his first wife, Mary Ann Lechner Rothrock (1802-1828); one child by his third wife, Lydia Bowersox Leonard Bothrock (1813-1857) and none by his fourth wife, Angelina Wallace Rothrock (1826-1880).

Dr. Rothrock married Catherine Mohney (1835-1916) on 04 Aug 1853 at New Bethlehem, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Dr. Rothrock was a physician, practicing in several central Pennsylvania counties, usually Snyder County. Dr. Rothrock served with the Union during the Civil war as a surgeon, and was captured by the Confederacy at the Battle of Chickamauga.

Dr. Rothrock and Catherine were the parents of five known children, namely:

1. Marand Rothrock (1854-1929)
2. James B. Rothrock (1855-1938)
3. Clara Sophia Rothrock Knepp (1857-1930)
4. Mary (Mollie) Ellen Rothrock Decker (1859-1944)
5. David Roswell Rothrock (1861-1944)
