Services for William G. "Bill" Abney, 45, of Lufkin were held Wednesday, April 26, 1989 in the Henderson Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Lufkin. Interment was in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Abney died Monday, April 24, 1989 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 13, 1944 and was a member of a pioneer Methodist Lufkin family.

His grandmother, Mrs. Paul C. Abney founded the First Methodist Church in her home, of which he was a member.

He was partner in the Abney & Medford Hardware, Inc. He spent all of his life in the retail hardware business, which his father, the late Dixon F. Abney, Sr., co-founder.

Mr. Abney served two years in the U S Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Lufkin Evening Lions Club and served on the board of directors for several years. He was a native an lifelong resident of lufkin.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Abney of Lufkin; son, John Warren Westmoreland and Brian David Westmoreland of Lufkin; brothers, Dixon Abney Jr. and Paul Abeny, both of Lufkin; nephews, Mark David and Jeffrey Abney, all of Lufkin; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Travis L. Sr. and Zelda Hearne of Lufkin; brothers-in-law, Charles and T. L. Hearn, both of Lufkin.
