Shreveport Jail Chief Dies at 47
Curtis Lee Barron, 47, superintendent of the Shreveport city jail, died about 8:45 p.m. yesterday in P&S Hospital after being stricken ill at his home at 5018 Werner Ave., about 5 p.m.
Friends said Barron had been resting in bed after getting off duty yesterday and that he was stricken after he got up and walked for a few steps. He was taken to the hospital and to intensive care unit in a partially paralyzed condition.
Cause of death was not immediately determined pending an autopsy, but hospital attendants said it appeared he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage.
He was born in Halsen, Tex., on Jan. 11, 1922 and had been a member of the police department since June 29, 1954. He was placed in charge of jail operation in 1964 and promoted to superintendent of the jail about two years ago.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary M. Barron and three children, including a son, Larry Barron, well known local football player.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
