AVIA LOU ADKINS of West Hamlin, W.Va., passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. She was born Dec. 27, 1936, in Sias, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Ida Bellomy. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Bellomy and Rex Bellomy. She was a retired school teacher, having taught home economics at Guyan Valley High School in Lincoln County. She was also a member of the West Hamlin United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry L. Adkins; one daughter, Sharon L. Adkins of West Hamlin, W.Va.; one brother, Doris (Bea) Bellomy of Ashland, Ky.; several nephews; many other special family members and friends; and her beloved dog, Scout. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, W.Va., with Rev. Thomas Jeffrey officiating. The burial will follow in the Goldsbury Cemetery, Sias, W.Va. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the McGhee-Handley Funeral Home.
