Mr. Benson was a Civil War Veteran, and an attorney with a practice in East Randolph. He was a justice of the peace, and a town supervisor for many years. He was the son of John and Millie Helms Benson. He was married first to Lucyette Merrill on June 18, 1868, and after her death to Juliette R. Woodworth Bowen on February 3, 1881. In addition to Mildred, he and Lucyette had another daughter, Grace Benson Moore. Mr. Benson also had a step-daughter, Hester Bowen Wolfe.
