In 1947 he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work in "Ride the Pink Horse." He made 60 films in his career, appearing in "Arabian Nights" in 1942, "White Savage" in 1943, "Force of Evil" in 1948, "Harlem Globetrotters" in 1951, and his last film, "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" in 1970. He died from injuries acquired in an automobile accident at the age of 65.
