U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Northwestern University Illinois, in 1941 and during World War II, he served as a Captain in the US Army Air Corps. After the war, he graduated from John Marshall Law School Illinois, in 1949 and worked for many years as a journalist for the Chicago Sun Times. In 1959, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-sixth Congress and reelected to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1973. Not a candidate for reelection, he was appointed to the National Advisory Council on Vocational Education, (1974-82) and was alderman from the 41st Ward of Chicago, until retiring in 1991.
