Gene Pilcher was the youngest child of Richard Montgomery and Martha Elizabeth (Colhoppe) Pilcher. He joined the U.S. Navy around 1900, then was recalled for the duration of WWI.

He was single all of his life and died in the home he had shared with his sister Etta at 5349 Easton Ave in St. Louis.
