U.S. Congressman. He graduated from McKendree College, in 1867, from the law department of the University of Michigan, in 1871, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law at Edwardsville, Illinois. He was a member of the Illinois State Senate in 1886 and a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1888. In 1895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Frederick Remann, serving until 1897. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he relocated to California and engaged in banking until his death at age 53.
