The oldest child of Angus MacDonald Simmonds and Christina Tillman Simmonds. On June 8, 1900, he married Margaret Dale Boughman. Margaret died on December 2, 1922. Later, he married Clara Blanche Burns on June 8, 1927.
Frank Simmonds was the author of the book, "John & Susan Simmonds and their descendants" published in 1940. Frank also served as President of the National Genealogical Society.

Funeral services were conducted Monday for Col. Frank W. Simmonds of Thatcher's Hill, rural Flemington, who had a distinguished career in banking and education. Col. Simmonds died Friday, Aug. 6, 1971 in Doylestown Manner Nursing Home, Doylestown, PA at the age of 95. He had been in ill health in recent months.
A resident of the Flemington area since 1939, he had shared his home, "The Pines", with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William R. Kuhns. Two other daughters are Mrs. D. HOward Moreau, widow of the publisher of The Democrat, and Mrs. William Kinnamon whose husband in President of the Hunterdon County National Bank.
Mr. Simmonds retired in 1944 as senior deputy manager of the American Bankers Association. While serving with the Association, his brochures on bank management and his work on saving the industry large sums earned him tributes of admiration from the U.S. banking world. One of his achievements was developing and organizing the system of regional bank management conferences throughout the country.
For many years he was listed in "Who's Who" and among his many other honors enjoyed a commission as a Kentucky Colonel, and was a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason.
Mr. Simmonds' early career was in education, and he maintained a lifelong interest in that field. On his 86th birthday, his pupils of half a century past showered him with cards and telephone calls of appreciation.
This past March 16 when Mr. Simmonds observed his 95th birthday, he received a congratulatory card from President Nixon. His "hometown paper", the Jewell County (Kansas) Record noted that fact and added, "He was a top-notch school man, and is still fondly remembered by his former students.

He was a pioneer in developing the junior-senior high school program in Idaho and also wrote textbooks.
During World War I, he was in Washington as Deputy Food Administrator under Herbert Hoover.
In 1920, he became district mangager of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a position he held three years before joining the American Bankers Association.
He lived in Tarrytown, NY before coming to Hunterdon County in 1939 after the death of his wife.
Mr. Simmonds commted to New York City to the offices of the American Bankers Association until his retirement. After that he kept busy with his garden which was his particular hobby and planted all the pines that now surround his property. He also kept up a voluminous correspondence with friends and former pupils.
