Local Aviator is Dead of Pneumonia

Lieutenant G.A. Holmberg, Brother of C.O. Holmberg and Mrs. John Nelson Pneumonia Victim-- Other Pneumonia Deaths Here.

Word was received here last night of the death of Second Lieutenant Gustaf Arvid Holmberg, former Rockford boy, who passed away at 6 o'clock last evening at Ellington aviation field, Texas, after an illness of about a week with pneumonia. He was a brother of C.O. Holmberg, 223 Highland avenue and Mrs. John Nelson, 201 Williams Park. Lieut. Holmberg was born in Michigan twenty-six years ago, coming to Rockford in his youth and residing here until four years ago, when he entered the government employ. He was a graduate of Rockford high school, and attended school at Kalamazoo, Mich., and Lane technical school in Chicago. He was engaged as instructor in manual training for the government, having been stationed in Porto Rico and various parts of this country, and at the time of his enlistment in the aviation service, was with Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. He was well known and held in high esteem in this city, being a prominent member of Swedish Mission church.

Surviving him, besides the brother and sister mentioned, are his father, Oscar Holmberg in Washington state, a brother, Andrew who was among the first to go overseas with the American troops, a brother, August in Seattle, Wash., and two sisters, Mrs. John Johnson and Mrs A. Holmberg in Detroit.

The remains will be taken to this city for internment in the Scandinavian Cemetery.

Bury Dead Aviator Here on Wednesday

Funeral services for the late lieut. G.A. Holmberg, the young aviator, at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas, will be held Wednesday afternoon 2 o'clock from the home of his brother, C.O. Holmberg, 223 Highland avenue.

The deceased, who was 26 years of age, was a former resident of Rockford, having been educated in the local public schools. The remains were accompanied here by Lieut. A.A. Abel.
