Eunice Main, age 90, of Johnston, Iowa and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 22, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Eunice Jeannette Peterson was born September 18, 1920 in Peterson, Iowa, the daughter of John and Edna (Lundien) Peterson. Growing up, Eunice lived in Albert City, Iowa and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1938.

In 1939, Eunice was united in marriage to Donald Main in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with nine children: Sondra, Beverly, Patti, Jackie, Janet, Becky, Cathy, Nita, and Robert.

Most of Eunice's years were spent as a homemaker caring for her husband and children. She also spent years as a cook in St. Mary's lunchroom. She then volunteered as a classroom aide and helped at the school wherever she could. She loved working with the children. One of her special memories was when she received a Volunteer Award from Governor Branstad. Eunice also received the First Annual Volunteer Award from St. Mary's. She loved having her family together and spending time with them. Her family will forever cherish the many quilts she sewed and tied, the frogs and the crocheted items she created. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Donald Main of Johnston, Iowa; children: Sondra (Robert) Miller of Rock Valley, Iowa; Beverly (Dale) Reis of Wichita Falls, Texas; Patti Sampers of Lakewood, Colorado; Jackie (Richard) Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa; Janet (William) Engler of Sac City, Iowa; Becky (Richard) Dirkx of Storm Lake, Iowa; Cathy (Timothy) Bueb of Clive, Iowa; Nita (Dennis) Miller of Des Moines, Iowa; Robert (Jody) Main of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; 32 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; sister, Denise Hjelle of Glenwood, Iowa; extended family and friends.
