Mrs. Rosa Lewis, a resident of this community for the past 73 years, died Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bradford Nursing Hom, where she had been a patient for two weeks. She was 79.
Mrs. Lewis had been ill for the past eight months.
She was the daughter of Edwin and Frances Baker and was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, Oct. 17, 1877. She was married to Otto Lewis in Richland Township., on January 28, 1899. He died April 17, 1955.
A lifelong member of the Christian Church, Mrs. Lewis came to this city (Alexandria) at the age of three following the death of her parents. She resided with Barney and Belle Maynard, who lived east of here on the Jackson St. Pike until her marriage. Mrs. Lewis was the last of her family.
She had resided at 709 S. Canal St., since 1929.
The body was taken to the Davis and Stricler Funeral Home where friends will be recieved after 7 p.m. today.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Jack Albertson, pastor of the Christian Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Park View cemetery.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Marlow, Alexandria; three sons, Guy Lewis, local realtor, former mayor and presently a county comissioner; and Maurice and Earl Lewis, all of Alexandria; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
