John Edward Wilkerson, 80 passed away peacefully at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, in Fulton, Illinois on Thursday, June 27th, 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (west side of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2nd, at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
John was born March 31st, 1933 in Nashua, Iowa the son of Wesley and Amanda (Bean) Wilkerson. He was a 1951 graduate of Mason City High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. In 1971 he was united in marriage to Carol Jean Peterson in Clinton, Iowa.
John worked in the maintenance department for Clinton Corn for 28 years and then with Alcoa for another 18 years as a Pipefitter. He was a Life Member of American Legion, Post 190 and the VFW.
John enjoyed woodworking , fishing and loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the local Clinton Baseball team. He also loved spending time in his garden. Along with his wife, he loved traveling - visiting numerous countries throughout the World.
John is survived by his wife Carol of Fulton, IL.; one daughter - LeAnda of Clinton, IA. ; one - son John Jr. of AZ.; four sisters - Freda Hedrick of Mason City, IA., Marjorie Booth of Manly, IA., LaDonna Wilkerson of Clinton, IA., Alberta Wilkerson of Mason City, IA.; three brothers - Loren (Mary) Wilkerson of Low Moor, IA., David (Janice) Wilkerson of Coralville, IA., Charles (Mary) Wilkerson of Clinton, IA. ; many nieces and nephews and very special friends Victoria & Clyde Cardwell of Morrison, IL., Allison & Alex Riggin of Clinton, IA., Ellen Dorhmann , Olivia & Andrew S. Dohrmann all of Marion, IA. and Lynne Prentiss of Morrison, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and a step-son.
