Harold E. Halsted, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease on Monday at Manorcare Health Services there. Services at State Center United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown.

Mr. Halsted was born in Buchanan County. He was a retired farmer who had lived near State Center before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1996. He served on the Tama County Farm Bureau board and the Highland Township school board. He was a member of United Auto Workers.

He is survived by his wife, Fern; five daughters, Joanne Ward of Cedar Rapids, Loretta Zimbelman of Plano, Texas, Barbara Adkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Colleen Mehaffey of Cedar Rapids, and Gwendolyn Horne of San Francisco; two sons, Everett of Marshalltown, and Wesley of Liscomb; two brothers, Carl of Marshalltown, and Don of State Center; two sisters, Florence Elsberry of Marshalltown, and Dorothy Petefish of Osage; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
