ALPHA - Mildred A. Smith, 89, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Alpha, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, in Mesa. Cremation has been accorded and service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial will be in the Alpha Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at Oxford American Legion Post 1197 in Alpha following the interment. She was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Aledo, to Thomas and Emma Krueger McKee. She graduated from the Oxford Township High School in 1939 and married Fred R. Smith on Sept. 14, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died June 2, 1976.
Mildred was employed at Servus Rubber in Rock Island, retiring in 1987. She enjoyed spending quality family time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include grandsons, Shawn Smith of Alpha and Shane Smith of Mesa; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Carter and Hunter Smith.
Her parents, husband, and two sons, Thomas William and Larry Lee Smith, preceded her in death.
