NILES - Mattie Pearl Burns, 77, of Lake Street in Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in Niles on Monday, March 7, 2011. Mattie was born on January 23, 1934, to the late Jack and Claris (Hopkin) Saulsbury. She was one of five children. On November 18, 1949, Mattie wed the love of her life, Robert E. Burns, who preceded her in death in 1995. Together they had two sons. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, and siblings, Harold Saulsbury and Elsie Griffin. She is survived by her children, Greg (Susan) Burns of Niles, Larry Burns of Niles; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rudolph Saulsbury of Arkansas; and sister, Cleon Wright of El Paso, Texas. In keeping with Mattie's wishes, she has been cremated and her family will be having a private gathering.
