Our Burns High Classmate from the Class of 1966:

"MORGANTON-William Coleman Earwood, 62, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

He was born in Cleveland County on March 1, 1948. Coleman retired after 32 years from North Carolina Department of Corrections in Morganton, and also served 40 years in law enforcement with various agencies, Boiling Springs Police Department, Polkville Police Department as Chief and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department.

After retirement, he has worked with Western Piedmont Community College as an instructor for DOC in-service. He was also a member of Amherst Baptist Church, Morganton, Masonic Lodge, REACT of Burke County and Ham Radio Club of Morganton.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Wortman Earwood and stepmother, Marjorie Earwood.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Lynn Franklin; father, Frank Earwood and wife Peggy of Shelby; son, Craig Earwood and wife Robin of Shelby; two daughters, Kim Blanton and husband Roger of Shelby and Cynthia Earwood of Shelby; four grandchildren, Emily Blanton, Cole Blanton, Mandy Thackerson and husband, Josh, Kasey Earwood significant other Lee Heffner; two great-grandchildren, Ally Thackerson and Ella Heffner; sister, Jean Costner and husband Joe of Fallston; nephew, Donnie Costner and wife, Tammy of Fallston, and niece, Tracy Lowie and husband, James of Honea Path, S.C. and special friend Sarah.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:30 -8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston

Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, Fallston

Interment: 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston
