KATHARINA "KATIE" KOEPPEL ELLEDGE

Katharina "Katie" Elledge was born to Frederick Koeppel, Sr., and Elizabeth Jacobosky Koeppel on October 15, 1916 in the township of Harrison (now Gotebo) in Kiowa County, Oklahoma. She passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 94 years and four months of age.

The family lived on a farm near the Rainy Mountain community southeast of Gotebo before moving to Mountain View. Katie attended Mountain View Public Schools.

She attended religious classes at the Lutheran Church and received her confirmation on August 31, 1931. Katie was a member and attended the Lutheran Church until it disbanded. Then she attended the Baptist Church.

On June 27, 1937, she married Roy Elledge in Hobart, Kiowa County, Oklahoma and they made their home in Gotebo, Oklahoma. To this union was born one son, Barton DeRoy Elledge. They resided in Gotebo for 55 years before moving to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1993. After Roy's death in 1997, Katie continued to live in Elk City. The last four and a half years she lived with he son and daughter-in-law.

Katie lived a very fulfilled Christian life. She was a cook at their cafe and the school for over 11 years as a pastry maker. Later, she worked at the Robertson Curtain & Drapery Factory. Katie was a person who cared for many others and was always helping in some way.

While working, Katie enjoyed many extras. She was a member of the Progressive Homemakers Club for over 50 years. During this time she won many high honors for her baking of pies, decorated cakes and breads. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans, bedspreads, dolls, and many other items, which she often entered in fairs.

After retirement, Katie and Roy (also called Wimpy) enjoyed camping and fishing with each other, friends and grandkids at the Fort Cobb Lake where they made new friends from several states.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, her husband, a grandson, Kasey Dan Elledge, one brother and one sister.

She is survived by one son, DeRoy and wife Beverly of Elk City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Kelly Sauseda and husband Gray of Mangum, Oklahoma; Keven Elledge and wife Tina of Elk City, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Bailey Sauseda, Mangum, Oklahoma; Kellen, Kian, and Kaden Elledge, Elk City, Oklahoma; one sister, Elizabeth Neal and husband Elmer, Mountain View, Oklahoma; one brother, Frederick Koeppel, Sun Tan Valley, Arizona; two sisters-in-law; a very special caregiver, Leslie Blackwell; along with a host of other relatives.

Visitation was Thursday until 8:00 p.m. at People's Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. Graveside services were Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Gotebo Cemetery, Gotebo, Kiowa County, Oklahoma.
