SUMMERFIELD, NC — Edith Spencer Andrews, age 91, of Summerfield, NC, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Wesley Long Hospital.
An outdoor memorial service was held at the Andrews family home, 7405 Haw Ridge Raod, Summerfield, on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 3:00 pm in Edith's Garden. Pastor David Partington of First Presbyterian Church, where the family are long-time members, officiated.
Edith was born May 13, 1918, and grew up in Montclair, NJ, where she met her husband, C Harold Andrews, a Greensboro native. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on June 14.
Edith was a pre-school teacher at Glen Ridge Congregational Church in the 1950's and later developed and supervised a pediatric play program at Babies Hospital in Newark, NJ in the 1960's. After moving to the Greensboro area in 1973 she taught pre-school classes at the YWCA.
Edith worked for 6 years in the 1960s at YMCA Camp Speers in the Pocono Mountains. She also spent countless hours researching family history and enjoyed many travels related to her genealogical quest.
Edith leaves behind her loving husband, Harold (now deceased as of December 19, 2010); her children Lynn Fisher (Roger) Toledo, OH, David Andrews (Janet) Cheshire, CT, Spencer Andrews (Susan) Greensboro; five grandchildren Jennifer Mendoza, Mark Fisher, David Fisher, Roderick Andrews, Hunt Andrews; six great grandchildren and a brother, Richard Spencer of Spring Hill, FL.
