Ray Bailey of Midland, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28th, after a long illness and surrounded by his family. Ray was born February 13, 1938 in Uvalde, Texas. He was married to the love of his life Ann Williams, November 8, 1957 in Midland, Texas. He was Daddy to his two daughters and their husbands; Beth & Danny Shock and Robin & David Askew. He was GarGar to his grandchildren; Andi & Tell Cotten, Megan Stacy & Fiancé Bucky Vaughn, Garrett Shock, Hannah Stacy, Ali & Matt Martin, and Hillori Shock. And also to his four great grandchildren; Klancy & Ethan Cotten, Leathy & Maddox Martin. He was a loyal big brother to Bob Nixon and Joe& Linda Nixon. Ray worked for Honolulu Oil and El Paso Products as a draftsman. In 1962, he went to work for his father-in- law at Williams Feed& Supply, subsequently became owner. During the years at the feed store he made many lasting friendships and was a mentor to those who worked for him. Later was a salesman for West Texas Gas where he traveled all over Texas cooking hot dogs and promoting GasCard. Ray had many hobbies that he enjoyed, but among his favorites were his twice a year fishing trips with his sons-in-law and gardening in his vegetable garden, and every Christmas making his famous cheese balls. Ray served his community as founder of Midland United Girls Softball Park. He was a proud father and grandfather of his girls who played. He was a # 1 fan of the Midland High School softball team, where all who knew and loved him as GarGar. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Step-Father; Pearl and Nick Nixon, and Mother and Father -in-law; Buddy and Cooney Williams.
Visitation will be Sunday January 30, 2011 at Ellis Funeral home from 6 to 8pm. Services will be held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 9:00 am at Calvary Chapel West Texas, corner of 191 & 1788. Graveside to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com.
Serving as pallbearers: David Askew, Tell Cotten, Matt Martin, Danny Shock, Garrett Shock, and Bucky Vaughn. Honorary Pallbearers: Tom Aylesworth, Johnny Campbell, Jim Diller, Kelly Luxton, Bob Nixon, and Joe Nixon.
Because he loved much he will be missed much and has left a deep hole, but…
