Daughter of a kosher butcher and a garment worker, Ray grew up in the Great Depression and knew deprivation. Joined the U.S. Navy shortly after graduating high school, something unusual for women in those days. Married Abraham Silber, an Army veteran and former high school sweetheart. Had three sons. Moved to Florida with her family in 1963 to create a better family life. A devoted mother and loving wife.Ray was a woman of strong liberal convictions and spoke out in favor of human rights, environmentalism, and justice. She was an intellectual, well read, and well travelled. Survived her husband, who died in 1993. Ray Silber suffered poor health thereafter and left this world on Mar. 19, 1996 . Her three sons, surviving siblings, and numerous relatives, friends and neighbors mourned the loss of a truly great lady.To know her was to love her.
