Woodrow Wilson Adams was born September 21, 1918, in Sand Springs, OK to William W. Adams and Samantha E. Fish Adams. He departed this life January 17, 2011.
The youngest of three children, he had an older sister, Dorothy, and an older brother, William, who was later referred to as Bill. Woody, as he was called, always spoke fondly of his family. He often spoke of Bill as being a great brother because he always included Woody in all of his interests and activities.
Woody and Bill attended the only high school in Tulsa, OK. Following graduation, Woody enrolled in John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. The founder of that University believed that one should combine hard work with extreme effort dedicated to learning to become a well-educated individual. Consequently, every student on campus was assigned a work activity. Woody firmly believed that this training was a valuable tool. He graduated from John Brown earning a Bachelor's degree in business and accounting. I
n May of 1942, he was assigned to the Army Aviation Cadet inactive Reserve Corp. This was just the beginning of about five areas of training that ultimately led him to B-29 Flight Combat Training, which prepared him for perhaps his most enjoyable flight experience ~ that of being the pilot of a B-29 which carried food and supplies from Guam to Japan. This was his last assignment at the close of 1946.
Following his time in service he was employed as a collector for the IRS in the Ponca City area. Later, he earned his law degree from Oklahoma City University and for 17 years was a member of the law firm of Miller, Wilson, Adams and Rogers. At this same time, he had become a Certified Public Accountant. In January of 1973, he returned to the IRS as an Estate Tax Attorney, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1994 at the age of 76.
Woody was a respected and loved individual by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his soft spoken words, his quiet love of people, being a loyal friend and perhaps last, but not least, being a dedicated Christian gentleman who loved his Lord and supported his church.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalee C. Adams, of the home; 4 daughters: Erlann Clark, Dallas, TX, Marileigh Dougherty, OKC, Junel Morris, OKC, and Debra L. Ely, Carrolton, TX; four granddaughters: Kelly Rains, Rochester, NY, Annia Morris, OKC, Allison Morris-Tillery, Forsyth, MO, and Lori Ely, OKC; 1 grandson, Christopher Brian Ely, Biloxi, MS; 2 great-grandsons, Calvin and Zeb Tillery, Forsyth, MO; niece, Linda Perry, Tulsa, OK; and 2 nephews, Timothy R.
