PHILLIPSBURG - Reynier V. Jones, 79, died Sunday at home.

Born in Irvington, Mr. Jones resided in Franklin Township most of his life before moving to Phillipsburg this year. He was a self-employed building contractor and served two terms, from 1946 to 1952, as a Hunterdon County Freeholder. He later served as clerk of the Hunterdon County Board of Freeholders until 1972, and was a former Franklin Township tax assessor.

He was a 1929 graduate of Clinton High School, and was an organizer of the Hunterdon County Senior Chorus. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Quakertown, N.J., the Sidney Grange, the Quakertown Recreation Club, and American Legion Post No. 113 of Frenchtown, and was an honorary member of the Quakertown Fire Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Father of the late Alan Jones, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Stout Jones; two daughters, Arlene Jones Taylor of Easton, Pa., and Elaine Jones of Torrington, Conn.; a brother, Cecil Jones of Hightstown; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday from the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, Flemington. Private burial will take place Thursday in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown. There will be no calling hours.
