Both John K Lehmkuhl and Johanna Boege were born in Germany and came to the United States at an early age. They married and bought a farm in Keg Creek Township Southwest of Treynor. John farmed until his death in 1887, shortly before their last daughter, Anna Mary, was born. Johanna and the family, with the help of the hired hands, continued to farm until 1906, when they moved to Treynor and later into Council Bluffs. Ten children were born to John and Johanna: Louise S in 1882, Wilhelmine in 1883(married Fred Westerman), John F in 1885 (wife Lizzie), Ed in 1886 (wife Ida), Matilda in 1887, Otto C in 1890 (wife Catherine), George F in 1891, Clara E in 1892, Emil in 1894, Anna Mary in 1897 (married Gus Swenson).
