Barbara was the daughter of Ralph and Grace (Wilk) Bloom. She was born in Illinois and moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area where she graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School. She met her future husband, Richard Evertz, while in high school. They married in 1949. They raised 5 children: Richard Jr, Karl, Victoria, Alexandra and Stacy. Around 1966 Barbara enrolled in college where she majored in teaching. She went on the get her masters degrees in History and Geography. She taught at Nova High School, Florida Atlantic University School and Broward Junior College. She died in 1993 and her ashes were scattered in the Atlantic Ocean where she and her husband loved to sail.
