Actor. Born in New York City, he was a character performer who appeared in over 500 radio plays, 73 films and over 100 television shows. In the 1930s, he began his career as a radio broadcaster, then branched into radio drama programs. He starred on radio shows such as "Philip Marlowe", "The Whistler", "The Adventures of Bill Lance" and many others. For feature films, he made his movie debut in "Society Smugglers" (1938), followed by a few more before serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Among his film credits are "The Magnificent Rogue" (1946), "Detective Story" (1951), "A Date With Death" (1959), "The Angry Red Planet" (1960) and "Funny Girl" (1968). For television, his many appearances included, "Bonanza", "Lost in Space", "77 Sunset Stripe", "I Love Lucy" "Maverick" and "Perry Mason". He died of a heart attack at age 54 after the completion of filming project in Stockholm, Sweden.
