Martha H. Gerszewski, 70, East Grand Forks, MN, was called home to God on Sunday, September 7, 2008 in Altru Hospital after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Martha was born on July 6, 1938 to William and Helen (Vonasek) Novak in Grand Forks, ND. She was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tabor, MN and was a member there in her youth. She moved to East Grand Forks and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School from which she graduated in 1956.

She then worked as a secretary for A&L Potato Company and then for Griffith's Department Store. Later, she spent time as a teacher's aide, sales clerk and library aide. She also did home health care.

On June 1, 1960, she married Philip L. Gerszewski at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks. They resided in Oslo, MN for one year, after which they traveled and moved extensively during her husband's military career. Upon his retirement, they moved to Crosby, MN and finally back to East Grand Forks.

Martha was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks and active in several organizations including the Eagles, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries and East Grand Forks and Grand Forks Senior Citizens. In her retirement, she enjoyed senior bus trips, playing whist cards and traveling.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Bouvier (fiancé, Phil Disalvo), Manchester, NH, Debbie (Paul) Pedersen, Indianapolis, IN; her sons, Wade (Terri) Gerszewski, Fargo, ND, Bill (Heidi) Gerszewski, East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Amy Crandall, Kaia Pedersen, Mason Gerszewski; step grandchildren, Sheryl (Jerry) Krauth, James (Heidi) Meline; step great grandchildren, Noah and Clara Meline. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Novak, Grand Forks, ND; her sister, Carol (Joe) Kotrba of Grand Forks, ND; brother-in-law, Eugene Dauksavage, Oslo, MN; many nieces, nephews, friends and longtime friend, Marvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen Novak, her twin sister, Marlene Dauksavage and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.

Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks,MN.
