Surviving are his wife, Helga Thomalla, whom he married in Germany on Dec. 22, 1961; his son, Steven Thomalla of Peoria; daughter, Diana Jones of Peoria; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia White of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Vernon was a 20-year U.S. Army veteran, serving in both Korea and Vietnam.
He was a member of the American Legion. He also was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and Mohammed Temple Shrine.
Vernon retired in 1991 from Lonza after many years of service.
Entombment will be in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Parkview Cemetery.
