Memorial services for Jacob "Jake" Samuel Tisthammer, 20, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at the Floyd School Gymnasium. Following the Memorial service, the family will receive visitors at Wheeler Mortuary from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday. Funeral services for Jake will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 13, 2010, at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Liz Smith, Pastor Marcus Murphy, and Chaplain Jerry Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Floyd Cemetery with R.J. Berry, Seth Gibson, Kyle Gibson, Thomas Pena, Caleb Washburn, and Staniel Bagby as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers for Jake will be Zac Pack, Demas Ortiz, and the Floyd High School Graduating Class of 2009.
Jake was born on November 10, 1990, in Clovis to Russell and Elvira (Chavez) Tisthammer and passed away on December 8, 2010 in Lubbock. He grew up on a ranch at Delphos, NM, and attended preschool at Portales High School and Kindergarten through 12th grade at Floyd Schools. He attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell his freshman year, 2005-2006, and made the Dean's list and was awarded Superior Junior Cadet Decoration as the Outstanding Cadet in the class for the Academic year 2005-2006. He graduated from Floyd High School in May 2009. He was awarded full Scholarship to attend Eastern New Mexico University. He completed two semesters with a 3.5 GPA in Electrical Engineering.
Jake was a proficient Fiddle player and computer enthusiast. He enjoyed football, fishing, and his many friends. He was a member of the Floyd High School National Honor Society and was happiest when with his friends. He attended Floyd United Methodist Church and has a loving church family.
Jake is survived by his parents, Russell and Elvira Tisthammer of Portales; his two brothers, David and fiancé, Della and Aaron and fiancé, Michelle. Also surviving Jake are his niece, Davina Tisthammer and his great niece, Aubrey; his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A special thanks to his numerous friends from Floyd, Portales, and Lubbock. Also to his nurses and doctors from University Medical Center in Lubbock, who lovingly cared for Jake during his 7 month battle with Cancer.
Following the burial on Monday, there will be a reception at the Floyd Senior Center.
