Merlin Paul Whiteman, 47, was a lawyer & civic volunteer

Services for Merlin Paul Whiteman, 47, Indianapolis, director of information services for an Indianapolis law firm, will be at 11 a.m. May 12 in Leppert & Hensley Mortuary. Calling will be from 5 to 9 p.m. May 11 in the mortuary. He died May 8.

Mr. Whiteman was director of information services five years for Ice, Miller, Donadio and Ryan. He previously had been legal counsel for the Simon Property Group and also had been a partner in Dann, Pecar, Newman and Kleiman.

Mr. Whiteman was a member of the Indiana Historical Society and a volunteer for its Talking Books program. He also was a member of the American Association of Law Librarians and was president-elect of the Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority. He was a former member of the board of directors of Westlane/Delaware Trails Little League, to which memorial contributions may be made.

Mr. Whiteman was a graduate of Hope College and received a master of library science degree and a law degree from Indiana University.

Survivors: wife Martha Corhin Whiteman; sons Geoffrey and Bradley Whiteman; brother Douglas D. Whiteman; sister Darlene J. Madhavpeddi.

Merlin Paul Whiteman, 47, of Indianapolis, formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, May 8 , 1999, in a traffic accident.

Mr. Whiteman was a graduate of Hope College, earned a master's degree at Indiana University and a law degree at IU School of Law.

He had been director of information services for Ice Miller Donadio and Ryan for five years and was a former partner with Dann, Pecar, Newman and Kleiman and legal counsel for Simon Property Group.

He was a member of Indiana Historical Society and a volunteer for its "Talking Books" program, a former member of Westlane board of directors and a member of Delaware Trails Little League, Jewish Community Center, American Association of Law Librarians and Indiana State Bar Association. He was president-elect of Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority.

Funeral was conducted Wednesday at Leppert and Hensley Mortuary in Indianapolis. Memorials may be made to Delaware Trails Little League.

Mr. Whiteman is survived by his wife, Martha Corbin Whiteman; sons, Geoffrey Paul and Bradley Joseph Whiteman; a brother, Douglas D. Whiteman; and a sister, Darlene J. Madhavpeddi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. and Annetta Maxine Whiteman.
